Award-winng kids music performers, The Hipwaders, will be bringing their "Hip Music for Kids" show to Vacaville's annual "Bunnies and Bonnets" Family Fun Day. Taking place in downtown Vacaville's Andrews Park, The Hipwaders will provide music for the entire family as kids enjoy the city's annual Easter egg hunt among other activities.

Two-time Parents' Choice Award-winners, The Hipwaders were also nominated by XM Satellite as Best New Kids Music Artists in 2005 and have been performing their upbeat, harmony-laden brand of "kindie-rock" throughout the Bay Area.

Baskets of Hope

Bringing Joy to Children in Need

One of the joys of childhood is receiving Easter baskets with candy, toys, and stuffed animals. Some families struggle daily just to meet basic needs such as rent and food, so Easter baskets for their children are a luxury they simply can not afford.

The sixth annual Baskets of Hope is providing Easter baskets to families in need, takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, in the Moose Lodge, 6585 Gibson Canyon Road in Vacaville. Families picking up their baskets will have the opportunity enjoy free activities including free pictures with the Easter bunny, games, coloring and crafts, an Easter egg hunt, and snacks.

Children, ages 2 to 10, are pre-registered through the Boys & Girls Club, Head Start program, as well as several local social service agencies. Last year more than 1,000 baskets were provided to children through Boys & Girls Club, Head Start, Latino Family Services, Opportunity House, Teen Mothers Program, and several other local programs.

Donations of Easter candy, children's books and toys, stuffed animals or empty baskets are needed to help put smiles on those children's faces. Even complete Easter baskets will be welcome. Donations can be dropped off at The Reporter, 916 Cotting Lane; Bounty Books at 857 Merchant Street, or at the Moose Lodge.

Basket making parties will take place in the Moose Lodge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 26, and also from 3 to 7 p.m. on March 27 and March 28. Volunteers are needed to help assemble the baskets on those dates, and also help with the activities on the day of the event.

Baskets of Hope began in 2002 to provide Easter baskets to children and families in need. The idea actually started at a Christmas Toys for Tots run organized by ABATE Local #17, a Solano-based motorcycle rights organization. The motorcycle groups of Solano have continued to support the concept providing of Easter baskets for children, and they have been joined in their efforts by members of local Veteran's groups, car clubs, civic organizations, businesses and ordinary citizens.
